The Zhengzhou municipal government held a press conference on Thursday to update on its Covid prevention work, detailing countermeasures in the local Foxconn facility, the site of the world’s largest iPhone assembly plant. The local government has formed a unit to enter the Foxconn facility to assist Covid prevention work, according to a senior official, Sun Jiange. Sun added that production at Foxconn was still operating normally. The facility has adopted closed-loop management whereby employees can only move from specific areas and stick to certain routines without leaving the site. Sun said that the government would support workers who want to return home and provide necessities for those who are not able to come to work. The affected Foxconn plant has 200,000 workers and more than 10% of global iPhone production capacity is currently impacted by the Zhengzhou Covid outbreak, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst for TF International Securities.
